How To Safely Shovel Snow

February 3, 2014

SNOW DAY! Awesome for the kids…not so great for the back…

Here are a few tips to avoid being injured while shoveling your driveway:

  1. Warm up before shoveling – view shoveling as a workout: warm muscles are less likely to be injured and will work more efficiently. This can be done by walking or marching in place for a few minutes, then stretch.

  2. Good ergonomics – Feet hip-width apart, bend at the knees-never the back-tighten your stomach muscles as you lift the snow.

  3. Avoid twisting motions

  4. Don’t bite off more than you can chew – take moderate scoops. Smaller, faster shoveling is more efficient and much better for your back and heart .  For more tips, check out this video: http://www.thediyworld.com/articles/2316/how-to-shovel-show-safely-and-efficiently.

Riley, Cameron, and Matt - did a great job installing our Gutter Covers. Riley kept us informed during each step of the process plus he identified and repaired an exterior drain at the rear of our property. I would recommend your firm to anyone considering gutter work.
